Our research focuses on the modeling of diseases of the nervous system using human stem cell-based models. Starting from somatic cells of patients and participants, pluripotent stem cells are generated by transformation. Mainly neurodegeneration and regeneration in stem cell based models of Parkinson's disease and degenerative motor neuron diseases such as hereditary spastic spinal paralysis (HSP) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are investigated.
Furthermore, genetic pain disorders and neural developmental disorders are investigated using stem cell-based models. The focus is on the analysis of structural and functional deficits.
